“thank you, your honor”

. . . . is the way jocjoc bolante began all his answers in the senate, my brother louie notes:

who is accused of lying cannot be expected to tell the truth if guilty

who is accused of lying may be expected to tell the truth if innocent

an investigation cannot depend on the testimony of the accused

but must concentrate and rely on the circumstantial evidences

and testimonies of the unaccused and unincriminated

all these investigations are designed to fail”

“innocent until proven guilty” is intended to protect the regular-person (or even those who are “less-than-regular” like the handicapped) from the power of the State.

Senators wield the power of the State and all their utterances before TV does not relieve them of having to do their homework.

This quote was reproduced briefly on Equalizer’s webpage:

Experience should teach us to be most on our guard to protect liberty when the government’s purposes are beneficent. Men born to freedom are naturally alert to repel invasion of their liberty by evil-minded rulers. The greatest dangers to liberty lurk in insidious encroachment by men of zeal, well meaning but without understanding.
